LNT to introduce an advanced play-out system
Last year LNT, the leading Latvian commercial TV company, and Hannu Pro, signed a contract for the deployment of an advanced play-out system. The value of this project reaches EUR 700 000. Hannu Pro has already delivered most of the vital system components. Hannu Pro service department is providing equipment installation and configuration. The solution is based on a Grass Valley K2 Summit server system with 8 freely configurable input/output ports and provides full compatibility with the Aurora news system to be introduced in the next phase of development. The project includes a Grass Valley K2 BaseCamp – MAM (Media Asset Management) – low-resolution proxy browsing and archive management system (18 floating Aurora Browse licenses), as well as two Grass Valley Maestro A+B roll play-out mixers with digital video effects (DVE) and channel branding, together with conforming automation equipment to support the broadcast of two TV channels LNT and TV5. Initially, play-out control will be performed using Hi Tech Systems HT-445 ActiV Filer controllers and K2 Summit AppCenter Pro application. The supplied Grass Valley Concerto SD/HD 128x128 router is the heart of the whole LNT and TV5 signal distribution system. Controlled by a fully redundant Grass Valley Jupiter intelligent controller using control panels at several different locations. Grass Valley GeckoFlex modular systems provide signal processing. Other equipment also includes an Infrotrend FTP RAID storage, Wohler audio control equipment, an Apantac multiviewer monitoring solution, and JVC monitors. The system allows performing program audio dubbing entirely in a file based domain, utilising the K2 system's capability to merge wav files with original movies.

Hannu Pro provides video monitoring for new KTS OB VAN
In September KTS (Kauno Televizijos Servisas) - the largest Lithuanian outdoor broadcast service provider, completed a price poll for a multiviewer monitoring system for its newly developed OB VAN and opted for a solution provided by Hannu Pro. Hannu Pro was able to quickly prepare such a competitive offer thanks to its continued experience developing OB VAN solutions for Baltic broadcasters: LTV Laura; LTV OB VAN with satellite uplink; Levira OB VAN; and the new ERR HD OB VAN, currently the most advanced in the Baltic States. The KTS monitoring solution is based on Apantac Tahoma and Avitech Rainier series multiviewers, capable of serving up to 32 video sources and 70 GPI streams, and includes four high-quality professional 42" JVC GM-F420S monitors. The system allows simultaneous visual monitoring of all inputs, while maintaining a compact size, which is essential when installed in a space limited facility such as an OB VAN. This solution was developed as a part of KTS OB VAN park upgrade project and its market value approximates EUR 20 000.

Hannu Pro wins the right to supply video switcher for ERR
An international tender for the TV video switcher purchase, called by Estonian public broadcasting (ERR), closed in September and Hannu Pro won it. ERR opted for the Hannu Pro offer, based on the positive experience of cooperation, the excellent quality of Grass Valley products, and the extensive operational and ergonomic features of Grass Valley Kayak 250 HD video switcher. ERR already owns Kayak HD series switchers which are installed on its HD OB VAN, thus the engineers could better evaluate the advantages of the Kayak 250 HD compared to other solutions and make the best choice. New video switcher will be installed in the ERR's main studio and together with Grass Valley LDK-8000 Elite series HD studio cameras will serve for high quality HD programme production. The market value of such video switcher reaches EUR 170 000 and it will be supplied in October.

Hannu Pro to supply equipment for Latvian DVB-T networks
In July Hannu Pro won yet another international tender, called by LVRTC, and to supply equipment for Latvian DVB-T networks. In Q3,2009, implementing the first phase of this large scale project, Hannu Pro will supply and install equipment to ensure that in 2010 the 1st national DVB-T network (multiplex) and two Lattelecom networks (multiplexes) will be available to 95% of Latvian population.
This project is based completely on Grass Valley technologies. In the central broadcast station in Riga (head-end) eight (7+1 redundancy) ViBE EM2000 SD MPEG4 encoders and two (1+1 redundancy) NetProcessor 9030 systems will be installed to prepare the signals of the 1st national multiplex and two Lattelecom multiplexes for transmission to LVTRC's regional centres via an SDH network, which also provides the required SFN adaptation. Regional centres will host ViBE EM2000 encoders for encoding of regional programmes and NetProcessor 9040 systems to provide programme splicing with regional programmes as needed.
The market value for solutions implemented during the first and second phases of DVB-T introduction is close to EUR 3 000 000. During the second phase four additional DVB-T networks (multiplexes) will be deployed and in 2012 - at the time when DVB-T introduction will be finished - there will be seven DVB-T networks (multiplexes) in Latvia.

Hannu Pro supplies encoders and monitoring systems to support DVB-T broadcasting
Lattelecom continues working with Hannu Pro on the introduction of DVB-T. In July Hannu Pro supplied additional equipment to produce high quality signals for free-to-air broadcasting of LTV1, LTV7, LNT, TV5 and one additional channel. Lattelecom received six Grass Valley ViBE EM2000 MPEG4 encoders, a Grass Valley Acapella SDI and ASI router system, as well as Leader equipment for signal measurement and testing. The equipment supplied in July, together with two previously supplied Grass Valley NetProcessor 9040 multiplexer systems, will integrate into Grass Valley XMS network management system (NMS) and will form a high performance head-end to feed signal to transmitters located in the Riga TV tower, as well as supplying signal for distribution via the National DVB-T network. The whole system operates in a Statmux variable bit rate configuration, which improves transmission efficiency by up to 25%. Subscribers can thus enjoy a better quality image without the need to increase bandwidth. For signal monitoring in the DVB-T network, Hannu Pro deployed an additional monitoring solution based on Grass Valley Granite Sentinel systems, which continuously monitor ASI signals from each multiplex and COFDM at the point where signals are passed to the transmitting antennas. This ensures parametrical and visual monitoring to conform to DVB-T standard and provides notifications and alerts when deviation from the standard is detected. Total value of both projects exceeds EUR 250 000.

Lattelecom begins introduction of DVB-T broadcasting in Latvia
In a resolution by the Latvian government, Lattelecom was selected for the introduction of digital terrestrial broadcasting (DVB-T) in Latvia. In March, Lattelecom and LVRTC (Latvian State radio and TV centre) signed a collaboration contract dealing with the use of broadcasting infrastructure throughout Latvia. This contract serves as the basis for further evolution of broadcasting systems and development of TV programme packages. Taking into account the strict regulations of DVB-T introduction, as well as in expanding its collaboration with Lattelecom, in April Hannu Pro finished the delivery and installation of Grass Valley DVB-T head-end systems valued at EUR 250 000. The newly supplied equipment enables a telecommunications operator to perform an instant launch of signal transmission tests in advanced MPEG4 format. After the MPEG4 signal tests are completed, Lattelecom, with its partners, will develop end-user recommendations to help in choosing compatible receiving devices (STB), decoders and TV sets. Presently Hannu Pro and Lattelecom are performing tests of several SD and HD MPEG4 compatible receivers, which show good compatibility with the DVB-T broadcast signal and support appropriate DVB-T services.

Hannu Pro will supply equipment for the launch of digital terrestrial broadcasting
In January, a tender organized by The
Ministry of Transport
of the Republic of Latvia, to choose the best contender for the introduction of DVB-T in Latvia, concluded. A number of prominent industry players took part in this tender and with a resolution by the Latvian government Lattelecom - the major Latvian telecommunications provider - was acknowledged as the winner.
