On November 14, 2007 Hannu Pro, in cooperation with Panasonic, organized a P2 series camera presentation and tape-less technology seminar. Panasonic representatives Yukisha Matsushita, Takahashi Uchida and Kari Korhonen introduced the attendees to the latest P2 series camera, the AG- HPX500 HD, and explained its features. In the final part of the seminar all participants were invited to test tape-less production workflow, including editing on a Thomson GV Edius workstation. The manufacturer's representatives were happy to answer all questions.
Panasonic P2 is a tape-less production system based on special RAID flash memory cards. The cards will support at least 100 000 recording cycles. P2 media is durable, shock resistant, dustproof and shows stable performance in various thermal conditions. Other P2 system advantages are:
·
|
instant access to media clips, allowing immediate preview of footage and deletion of unsuccessful shoots, thus freeing up memory for the next ones |
·
|
protection against accidental overwriting of previously recorded clips |
·
|
metadata containing footage description information |
·
|
elimination of the need for expensive tape recorders: clips are accessible with P2 viewer freeware on any PC with a connected or built-in PC card slot |
·
|
provision of an option to edit clips directly on P2 media without wasting time to copy to NLE systems hard drives |
·
|
a five-year warranty on cameras as they have no parts subject to mechanical wear. |
With the introduction of digital broadcasting in Latvia, tape-less production solutions are now the topic of the day, and are becoming vital it in news programme production.
